The Billings Police Department and Billings Fire Department are excited to partner with Special Olympics Montana as the charity that will benefit from this year’s Guns & Hoses softball game.
“The Billings Firefighters love being a part of this community and want to support local organizations that are going above and beyond to make this city the greatest place to live,” said Chris Voller, Assistant Training Chief for the Billings Fire Department.
Not only will the athletes be present at the game on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, but they’re also the stars of this year’s video promoting the game.

The video begins with a flashback to July 9, 2022, when the Billings Fire Department is defeated by the Billings Police Department for a second year in a row.
In need of encouragement, Sparky The Fire Dog gets some help from his friends at Special Olympics Montana.
The athletes put him through practice and boost his spirit even when he’s having a hard time keeping his eye on the ball. Screenshot (86)With some reassurance, Sparky’s swing improves and before he knows it, he’s hitting home runs out of the park!
This year’s game is sponsored by Faithful Disaster Restoration
Their generosity and support also allowed the PD to bring back the Beat the Heat 5K family fun run and walk. BTH“Come out for a day of fun! Test your speed in the returning Beat the Heat 5K, then stick around and watch the PD attempt to threepeat against the FD in our 3rd annual Guns & Hoses charity softball game,” said Sgt. Nate West, public relations sergeant for the Billings Police Department.
The run starts at 9 a.m. at Grandview Park, located at Poly Drive and N. 30th Street, and ends at Dehler Park, 2611 9th Ave. N.
Participants can stick around to grab some food, check out law enforcement vehicles and fire apparatus, then catch the first pitch of the softball game at noon. Admission to the game is FREE!
All proceeds from the run and donations made during the game will go to Special Olympics Montana.
Sign-up is open through July 31 at https://runsignup.com/Race/MT/Billings/BeattheHeat
