Overview
State Law 76-15-311
As a matter of legislative determination, farm and grazing lands of the State of Montana are among the basic assets of the state and preservation of these lands is necessary to protect and promote the health, safety, and general welfare of its people. It is the policy of the legislature to provide for the conservation of soil and soil resources of this state.

The purpose of this board is to oversee the conservation of soil and soil resources of this county and in an advisory capacity, develop methods to control and prevent soil erosion; prevent floodwater and sediment damages; to further the conservation, development, utilization, and disposal of water and thereby to preserve natural resources, control floods, prevent impairment of dams and reservoirs, preserve wildlife, protect the tax base, protect public lands, and protect and promote the health, safety, and general welfare of the people of this state.
