Living Independently for Today and Tomorrow (LIFTT) is pleased to announce that on July 26 they will be hosting a community celebration to mark the 32nd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The landmark bipartisan civil rights legislation was signed into law by President George H.W. Bush in a White House ceremony on July 26, 1990.

The event will run from Noon to 2 p.m. in the Front parking lot of the LIFTT office at 1201 Grand Avenue and will feature a free BBQ lunch of hot dogs, bananas, and bottled water as well brief greetings and reflections on the importance of the ADA from members of the LIFTT team and local elected officials.

“The Americans with Disabilities Act marks the first time in history a nation put into law the concept that people with disabilities are first and foremost citizens entitled to the same rights, protections, and access to their communities as anyone else.” said LIFTT Outreach and Government Affairs Coordinator, Jed Barton, “ This event is a chance for the community to come together to celebrate this achievement and to highlight some of the challenges and opportunities facing people with disabilities in our region today.”

For more information about the event please contact Carlos Ramalho, Executive Director, at (406) 294-5190 or carlosr@liftt.org or Jed Barton with LIFTT (406) 294-5186 or jedb@liftt.org.

In the event a quorum of the Council is present, NO City-related business decisions will be made.
