Federal Task Force Partnerships

The BPD actively engages in partnerships with Federal Agencies to increase availability of resources, funding, information sharing, efficiency, and overall collaboration to enhance public safety services in the community.

FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATIONS (FBI)

There is one (1) BPD Officer and one (1) BPD Detective sworn as FBI Task Force Officers assigned to the FBI’s Transnational Organized Crime (TOC) – West Task Force. These officers are assigned full time to the Eastern Montana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force. They specifically investigate drug trafficking organizations (DTOs) operating in the Billings area. Their mission is to identify, disrupt, and dismantle local, regional, and international DTO operations using Local, State, and Federal investigative jurisdictions.
 
There is one (1) Detective assigned full time to the FBI Intermountain West Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory (IWRCFL). The RCFL is a full service electronic forensic laboratory devoted to the examination of digital evidence in support of criminal investigations.
 
UNITED STATES MARSHALS SERVICE (USMS)

There is one (1) BPD Officer sworn as a USMS Task Force Officer assigned to the Montana Violent Offender Task Force (MVOTF). This Officer is assigned full time to the MVOTF and focuses on the service of arrest warrants of wanted persons in the Billings region.
 
DRUG ENFORCEMENT ADMINISTRATION

There is one (1) BPD Officer sworn as a DEA Task Force Officer assigned full time to the DEA Diversion Squad. This officer works to investigation crimes associated with the diversion of controlled pharmaceuticals and controlled substances.
 
BUREAU OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND FIREARMS (ATF)

There is on (1) BPD Officer sworn as an ATF Task Force Officer assigned full-time. This officer focuses on the criminal investigation of firearms crimes and crimes where firearms are used.
