Definition of Terms

Below are terms appearing in local and state codes
applying to pedestrians and drivers of vehicles.


Bicycle: Any two-wheeled non-motorized vehicle as defined by state law and, for purposes of this article, includes any attachment to such vehicle designed to transport individuals.

Business District:
For those riding bicycles in Billings, a "business district" is any district zoned Neighborhood Commercial, Community Commercial, Central Business District, Highway Commercial, Controlled Industrial and Heavy Industrial.

Crosswalk: According to State Code, a crosswalk is, "that part of a roadway at an intersection included within the connections of the lateral lines of the sidewalks on opposite sides of the highway measured from the curbs or, in the absence of curbs, from the edges of the traversable roadway," or, "any portion of a roadway at an intersection or elsewhere distinctly indicated for pedestrians crossing by lines or other markings on the surface."
