Captain Matt Lennick started his law enforcement career in 2004 as a deputy with the Musselshell County Sheriff’s Office. Matt then transferred to the Billings Police Department in 2006. During his time with the PD Matt worked as a patrol Officer, spending time on all three shifts, and became a Field Training Officer in 2010. In 2013 Matt was selected as a Downtown Resource Officer focusing on program development and public relations. Matt was promoted to Sergeant in 2016 and returned to the patrol shifts supervising teams on the afternoon and night shift, supervised the Taser program, and became the Field Training Coordinator for the department until 2021. In 2021 Matt was promoted to Lieutenant and managed a patrol shift until 2022 when he was assigned as the Administrative Lieutenant, overseeing the hiring and training of both sworn and civilian positions, the department’s testing and selections for specialty positions, the Community Service Officers, the volunteer program, the Crime Prevention Center, policy drafting and updates, public relations, and served as the department’s Public Information Officer. Matt was promoted to Captain in March of 2025 and now oversees the department’s Investigative Division.
