1. Why did a fire engine respond when I called for an ambulance?: All firefighters are trained Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and every fire engine is usually staffed with a paramedic as well. Firefighter/Paramedics are able to begin life saving care and medications before the arrival of an ambulance. Additionally, your neighborhood fire stations are located strategically throughout the city to provide short response times.

2. When do I need a burn permit and how do I get one?: Open burning is generally prohibited within the City limits. If you plan on burning, a permit is required. To apply for a permit, if you live within the City limits, please call the Fire Prevention Bureau at (406) 237-6262. To apply for a permit, if you live in Yellowstone County, please call the Yellowstone County Emergency & General Services Department at (406)-256-2775.
