This plan will:

Use public input to identify safety concerns and opportunities on routes where children walk or bike.
Recommend safety improvement projects.
Position schools to secure funding to make those improvements.

Why Safe Routes to School

Within the span of one generation, the percentage of children walking or bicycling to school has dropped significantly (48% in 1969 to 13% in 2009).
Kids are not getting enough physical activity.
Roads near schools are congested, decreasing safety and air quality for children.
