Billings MET prepare for new designated bus stop sytem

MET

The Billings MET facility crew recently made their way across Billings to install more than 450 new bus stop signs.

They're preparing for a new designated bus stop system that begins on Oct. 2, 2023.

MET will have close to 500 designated bus stops. The goal is to make service safer and more frequent.

The designated stops are spaced out a quarter of a mile or less from each other along their routes.

The bus service is also moving from a 60-plus minute frequency to a 15 and 30-minute frequency.

This new system eliminates the current flag stop system and takes the confusion out of where to stand to catch the bus.

Come October 2, riders will need to load and unload at the designated stops.

Every stop will be marked with a sign that has a bus stop ID number and routes served.

MET also plans to unveil an updated route map and schedule in the coming weeks.

Some features include more north-to-south connections, a 15-minute downtown circulator route, 30-minute frequency on six new routes, and service until 8 p.m.

Anyone with questions can call MET at (406)657-8218.
