BILLINGS - City of Billings Director of Aviation and Transit Kevin Ploehn has announced he will retire this year.
Ploehn has worked for the city for almost 33 years. He began leading the aviation and transit department in 2015.
He shared a statement with local media outlets on Friday afternoon.
“After more than 32 years of working for the City of Billings, 28 of which were at the airport, I have decided to pursue other activities which my wife Carolee and I have always wanted to do. An exact date for my retirement is pending and will be determined once the process of finding my successor is underway. I have truly enjoyed my career with the City and I consider it a privilege to be acquainted with so many great people because of that opportunity.”
City Administrator Chris Kukulski has started looking into options to fill the position by talking to Ploehn, along with industry leaders and recruitment firms.
"I will also be reaching out to Kevin’s team within aviation and transit, community leaders and the Council," Kukulski said in his weekly report.
Updates as Ploehn approaches retirement will be given at city council meetings and on the city website.
